TACTICS Information

TACTICS mission

Cardiovascular failure affects around 2% of the adult population around the world (i.e. 100 million people), however heart transplantation is available for less than 5000 patients every year. In this context, cardiac regenerative medicine is a promissing discipline.

The international consortium TACTICS (Transnational Alliance for Regenerative Therapies in Cardiovascular Syndromes) has recently addressed key priorities in the field of cell-based therapy for cardiac repair, identifying the efficacy of translational research as one of the main challenges to ultimately improve the quality of life of patients with ischemic disease. Much of the controversy and confusion surrounding cardiac rege...

Cardiovascular regenerative therapies are pursued on both basic and translational levels. Although efficacy and value of cell therapy for myocardial regeneration can be debated, there is a consensus that profound deficits in mechanistic understanding limit advances, optimization, and implementation. In collaboration with the TACTICS (Transnational Alliance for Regenerative Therapies in Cardiovascular Syndromes), this review ov...

This website makes available an international prospective register for preclinical animal trials. That prospective registration of animal studies will be essential in the optimization of preclinical research and increase its value for patients. With this register a reduction in the risks of reporting biases in animal studies is aimed. It will constitute a tool to avoid unnecessary duplication, improve the quality and increase...

Time for a global alliance

This is a special time in the field of cardiovascular regeneration. However, unlike many would have assumed following controversies in cardiovascular regenerative medicine, there is no crisis but a compelling need and willingness amongst clinicians and scientists to discuss progress and hurdles in cell therapies in an open forum, which has been the mission of the International Symposium on Cell Therap...

The TACTICS mission is to critically analyze the achievements obtained in cardiac regenerative medicine, assess the scientific value of the field and to plan basic, translational and clinical research for the next decade.

These actions will ease the translation from research to the general population, will reduce the uncertainty and scepticism and will prevent controversial and confusing results from preclinical and clinical research.
